A group of ladies in Los Angeles have shown that they can still be just as sensual over-40 as they were when they were younger, by setting up an over-40s-only pole dancing club.
The Pole Pumas, as they call themselves, have said that more and more ladies of their age are becoming interested in the activity, both for the health benefits it bring and to add a little spice to their dating lives.
The instructor of the group, Barbara Robinson, 49, said that many of the ladies in her class were going through break-ups or divorces and were looking for an activity that would make them feel sexy again, in preparation for getting back out on the dating scene.
"Poling changed my life, it sounds so cliché, but it's true," Robinson told The Daily Mail newspaper. "Older women enjoy poling as they are more in touch with their sensuality, whereas younger women are self-conscious and worried about the strip club stigma of poling."
The classes are held in studios around Los Angeles, with dimmed lights, candles and curtains over the mirrors, to try to help any of the participants who still feel a little inhibited. Robinson said that the atmosphere helps the ladies feel less self-aware and more free to express themselves.
