A new study in to the sexual behaviour of women of all ages has shown that more older women are satisfied with the quality of their sex lives than younger women.
The research, carried out by a group of Californian researchers and published in the American Journal of Medicine, showed that while older ladies may be having fewer passionate encounters than younger ones, they reported that their general sex lives are proving more satisfying for them.
Eighty-three per cent of the youngest women who responded to the survey said they were sexually active, while just 13 per cent of the oldest respondents said they were. Around 47 per cent of the older women said they were very satisfied with their sex lives - whether or not they were having sex - while that applied to just 25 per cent of the younger respondents.
The author of the study, Dr Susan Trompeter, said that the study showed how sexual activity was not always necessary in order for an older lady to be sexually satisfied. She explained, "Those who were not sexually active may have achieved sexual satisfaction through touching, caressing or other intimacies developed over a long relationship."
